E30 Touring and Tall People

Actually, I have owned a bunch of cars I should not have fit in. But after a few minor (?) modifications all was well.

Here's a short list of cars I have owned and driven comfortably: 1967 MGB, 1987 Pontiac Fiero, 1989 BMW 325 i convertible, 1981 Ferrari 308, 2000 Ford Escort.

The Ferrari required the largest modification, but I got it to work.

I have employed a broker. He has assured me that all I will need is a Delivery Order and a CBP 3461. He will be providing both of those.

I have also discovered that I can get a 96 hour Delivery Plate from the state of Indiana if I have a Bill of Sale. I think I'll get one of those.

The boat gets to Baltimore on September 28th. I am flying to Baltimore on October 7th. I hope that is long enough to get the car off the boat and through Customs.

Good to hear, and very sensible of IN, only wish MD would make it so easy. In normal times I suspect that this will be enough time, no idea about now. Good luck!

Will the Port check my paperwork, or will I just have to show an ID?

To get in to the port you will need a port escort (unless your car lands in a non-restricted access yard/you have cleared customs already), and when you go with them to the entrance you will show your ID. They will not check your paperwork, however, the customs officer will before release (unless you had a broker handle it in advance), and on exit, or leaving the storage yard, they may scrutinize your paperwork carefully, but at minimum you'll probably need to show a valid tag and insurance (no matter what your state requirements are).

Also remember, if you have planned this out for an exact day of arrival your cargo may end up in a customs hold, or may simply be delayed in unloading or transit. Either of those can add anywhere between a day and two weeks of delay.

I’m 6’1” and track my Touring on days that I’m instructing. With even my helmet on, I sit comfortably without contacting the headliner. Though, I do have Recaro’s in mine with a tilt back for better leg/arm alignment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I hope you have a legal transport tag if you plan to drive it out of the port, and if so that's impressive that your state allows that with presumably no title/paperwork in hand.

I am about ready to find out how tall people and Tourings fit together. I have one on its way to the port in Baltimore, and I'm going to drive it to Indianapolis from there.

I do think that the rear seat cushion is taller, also the foam seems more firm, and you sit more on top of the seat rather than squishing down. At least the front should be identical to a sedan.

When sitting in the backseat the fabric of the headliner seems much closer to my head though, compared with a sedan or coupe. I suppose the flip up backseat needs more space to make it work.
Do note that I have not actually measured this.

I fit okay in my iX Touring, am 2.04m myself

However the steering wheel could have been a little bit more away from the dash (mtech2)
