Hey all, Klub Vintage is offering up a running 1987 535is for sale with a beautiful interior and decent body, but some rust underneath.
I'm offering this car up first to forum members, BMWCCA, and enthusiasts at a lower price before I invest any money into it. As you know we can repair or restore it to any condition you would want or you can buy it as is.
I bought this car up from a local client who drove it regularly until the starter went in 2003, when rather than replace the starter she parked it amongst her collection and there it sat until this past year when she decided to sell it. I picked up this car, brought it back to the shop and we replaced the starter and put in new plugs, BavAuto plug wires and a newer battery and she fired right up on the first crank (video included below.) There is a huge tear in the intake boot that had been covered with duct tape and probably a few other things that are keeping her from staying running. She fires right up and idles well now, shifts in and out of gear but we haven't driven it on the road because there is a leak in one of the brake lines above the diff.
The interior of this car is in wonderful condition including all the seats, doorcards carpet etc. The dash is also beautiful and only has one major crack and two very small almost unnoticeable cracks. All of the windows work including the sunroof, all of the seat functions work properly excpet for the headrest as usual. All of the lights are perfect and the grille set is also perfect. The toolkit is complete minus or or two tools, and the headliner is almost perfect. The body is very straight for the most part with minimal rust, mostly in the trunk under the tails where the gaskets failed. Underneath the car has quite a bit of surface rust and some rot in various places, it is not horrible but is the usual rust found in many of our northeast classic bimmers. Surprisingly enough all of the floor pans are in excellent condition.
We detailed the car, looked over the rust and got her running. Now she will sit on the lot until it's her turn to go in for service. So I'm offering this 535is up for sale for much less than I will once I've put her through the shop and invested more money into getting it running and driving well...we can do it for you or you can do it yourself. This car would make a good beater or donor for it's great interior and engine.
I'm asking $1,500. obo Please don't hesitate to ask any further questions or come see the car.
