Put the question in hand to the V8 section of the forrum.

      Yes.

4.0 is a direct swap, just swap the ecu.

Don't see why running a 4.4 on OBD1 would be that much more difficult.

if you change over the timing chain and covers it'll run off the factory DME I believe. I think you'll need to use the heads off you 3.0 as well

Are M60B30 and M60B40 heads the same?

the m60 4.0 is basically plug and play, but 4.4 isn't.

You'll need to convert the m62 4.4 to obd1 to run in the e34, or make a hybrid m62 using parts from the 4.0 m60.

            3.0 m60 intake/throttle/heads/valves are different from the 4.0

3.0 and 4.0 share the same oil pans/timing covers upper and lower, but the internals are not the same, cams are though.

            example -

            3.0 cams on the 3.0 and 4.0
            11311736117 on the 4.0 = 11311736117
            11311736131 on the 4.0 = 11311736131
            11311736119 on the 4.0 11311736119
            11311736133 on the 4.0 11311736133

            intake valve 32,0/5.94 11341435476 on the 4.0 35/5.94mm 11341435480
            exhaust valve 28.5/5.94 11341435478 on the 4.0 30.5/5.94 11341435482

            lower timing cover 11141733522 / on the 4.0 = 11141733522
            upper covers 11141729583 / 11141729585 / on the 4.0 11141729583 / 11141729585

            head 11121731912 / 11121731913 on the 4.0 = 11121731910 / 11121731911

Obviously 4.4 cams are totally different as well, along with the heads too.
