    stupid e34 swap question

    1995 540i blown engine blown trans.

    Assuming everything will bolt up (because it will) can you swap in any pre odb II m50 with all supporting harness/management?? I cannot see how it would not plug right in.

    I cant find that its ever been done.

    Thoughts on this my e34 friends...? ;D ;D

    Convert all the engine bay, including braking system etc yo 525..
    It's been done, but you'd find it much cheaper and easier to just get anther m60b40.

      I think the subframe is different on the v8 cars.

      1983 533i - in the middle of a m30b35 swap
      1986 528e - the DD
      1992 325i Vert

        the engine should mount the same. many things are in different spots in the engine bay, not sure if that will interfere with the m50. the driveshaft bolts up differently and is much bigger in the 540 than any other car, aswell as the rear differential and subframe. all of the axles are much bigger on the 540. Im pretty sure the diff ratio on the 540 will be terrible with the m50. Ive had the chance to see all the parts up close because my friends 540 was very rusty . he decided to keep the whole drivetrain and scrap the body. Comaring the 520 > 525 > 540 theyre all a bit different.

        long story short im pretty sure to make the swap easier you would have to source a 525 rear subframe , differential, driveshaft.

          Itll Eat gas, leak oil and coolant everywhere. Thats all M60s do. not worth it. YOud have to transfer the entire remote booster system over as well.

            Tim, you read the post backwards. He wants to pull the m60b40 and swap to a m50b25tu.

            By the time you buy all the parts and or donor chassis, you might as well have re-m60d it, sold it, and bought a 525 and pocketed the change... Instead of investing the cost of a nice complete 525 in swapping TO 525.

              4.4 it!

              Depending on how it's blown, maybe the heads are good? Make a hybrid 4.4 and have a really cool result! Lots of threads detailing the build.

              But seriously, a high mile 4.0, put a few 100 in to do all the valley pan stuff while it's on a stand, maybe flip it over, check some bearings, helicoil the alum ends, put the pan back, and drop it in.....

              Very entertaining cars....

                E39s, yes. E34s, no.

                E39s v8 cars got the steering box setup, the I6 cars have a rack.

                All e34s have a steering box.

                Totally able to swap in an M50, but IDK why. Maybe with some M3 cams and a 5sp it'd be alright. Would have to swap the diff for sure.

                I'd find another v8 and put in there.
