    E34 540i mystery wire

Hey everyone, I've been trying to figure out where this connector goes for a while. But I can't find where it plugs into. Anyone know?

the wires that come out of that side of the harness go to:
    crankshaft position sensor
throttle body position sensor (there is the main one and the ACS one)
    idle control valve
    oil pressure sensor (i think)
maf (its not the maf, different plug)

Hey correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the oil pressure sensor?

If your car is a manual transmission, then that is an additional sensor for the throttle body that is only used on automatic transmission cars. They used one harness for all the V8 cars.

i'm not sure about this, all throttle bodies are the same, manual or automatic. what other sensor would there be?

OP, willing to cut the shrink wrap away to learn the wire colors?

I am pretty sure it is what I translate as "starter." It must have some other meaning in German but your guess is as good as mine.

Its the ASC+T plug. Gaode, does your car have an ASC+T button to the left of the shifter?

And there are two throttle bodies apparently. http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...of-this-wiring

EDIT: The reason why most people have no idea what the plug is, is that it looks like only the 540i/6 M-Sport cars had the feature. A lot of the automatic cars had the feature and many of the 525s had them as well.

So if the car doesn't have the ASC+T the connector just sits there unused?

Sure. If you were BMW, would you make two different harnesses for the omission of one option item?

Yes my 540i is a 6spd. And I've spent so much time looking for a spot to plug it in.
I will pull the shrink wrap back a little and inspect the wires.
And I'll also check for the buttons next to my shifter.
I'm just worried about when I go to smog/emissions test because it can cause a failure for visual. (Missing pieces from the engine etc.)

Been doing some more reading on this...isn't this where the ASC+T connector goes? If so, it looks like it's already connected or am I just seeing it wrong?

That does look like it and it does look like it is plugged in already...Interesting.

FYI, here is my throttle body. Much different looking than the OPs. I bet the short one that is unplugged in the pic below is the ASC+T. In which case, the OP and I have the same loose wire. Can you tell what colors mine are?

Another look at my throttle body. Only has one throttle body blade.
