    Somehow I burn myself with the TIG a lot more than the MIG. Even with all the spatter.

    One thing no- one mentions: a 110v machine will not really be able to do a good job on aluminum.
    The MIG can do thick sheet stock, but will be working really hard to get enough heat in there.
    A 110v TIG (if you can find one) just won't have enough watts to do anything thicker than 12ga.

    I think your plan to start MIGging is a good one- you can do a LOT with one.
    I have even used .023 aluminum wire with a teflon sleeve- no spool gun required.
    As above, getting enough starting heat's really difficult, but once welding, it worked.

      The best way to learn to weld is to start welding, even if the best you find is a soviet-era stick like this one
