I seem to have developed an oil leak. I've cleaned the area many times and checked after driving, unfortunately I can't tell exactly where it's originating. Does anyone have a suggestion? If not, I'm thinking of just replacing everything in the area.

    Many thanks

      M52?
yeah, there's the VANOS solenoid, the oil feed line to VANOS, and the intake cam position sensor in behind.

Of course, the most usual suspect is the oil filter housing gasket, but that's too low for your circle.
      Unless it's peeing uphill...
The cam cover can crack, and the front cover to head seal can leak, too.

      Lotsa options,

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

Could be VANOS solenoid, Cam sensor oring, valve cover gasket. Vanos oil line banjo washers and the PCV hose aren't too far away either.

Are either of the solenoid or banjo bolt loose?

yes true, could possibly be the VANOS solenoid, check the stated part and let us know if it works
