As much as i love my e30, i really love the power in my e36 m3. They are a great bang for the buck these days (:(). If you can find one that has not been mistreated i say go for it, clean e30's are harder and harder to come by...

if you get the m3, make sure the cooling system has been replaced, that was the first thing i did with mine.

        E36 m3

It's heavier but a blend between your e30 and 5 series. I'd go for '99 and pay a bit more. That being said, drive it first.

I think you might end up ditching the 5 series. three cars are impractical and you will likely reduce the space. good luck. i'm in an e36 and miss the e30 but not the nickle and diming.

Find a nice 1992 MTech, like I did, add a low mileage S52 with OBDI conversion, like I did, do an e30 M3 suspension and steering rack conversion, like I did. And...enjoy. Sweet car! You'll have the best of both worlds and as my 5 year old says, "We can do Jimmy Johnson burnouts up and down the street in front of the house!"

Anyone know what tires size I can squeeze under my fenders? I tried the 225/50/15 mounted on Kosei's from my M3 and they rub front and rear. I tried the 215/40/17 street rims from my M3 and they work great however, in Indiana we have terrible roads and there isn't enough sidewall. I'd like to get a set of 16" e28 M5 wheels with 215 rubber. Any thoughts from those who have done this?

Oh, my car is lowered with H&R/Bistein sports.

          TIA,
          John

I had e28 m5 basketweaves on my 90 325is swap car and the fronts were fine but the rears rubbed pretty badly under hard acceleration. you need to do some very, very aggressive fender rolling to get them to fit, and you'll still probably have some rubbing at full squat. i ended up running 17x8 et40 fikses with small spacers and 215/40 tires. no rubbing at all.

et20. they fit fine on the earlier cars with the bigger arches, but the plastic bumper cars have rear fender arch clearance issues.

                        Congrats

I saw that on ebay and it did not sell the first time. Almost went to highland park to see it but I'm really bent towards the Mtech 1 style.

                        Very rare dude!

He was in Highland (san bernardino) not Highland Park. Here's the full story...

I almost bought this car from the original owners but they sold it before I could go have a look. As luck would have it, the same car shows up on the forums years later with only 2K more miles, turbo'd with a 5 speed swap. I passed on it again, then it popped up on ebay twice, and i decided to pull the trigger.

                              Go for the e36 m3.
That way, when you get tired of it, you can use sell most of the parts to fund an e30 of your choice and swap the engine, tranny, diff, 5lug, etc.
