    E30 325iC M technic or E36 M3

Thinking about picking up another car just trying to decide on another E30 (325iS/325iC/M Technic) or E36 M3. E36 M3's have gotten really cheap in Cali. There's a couple in the 5-8K range that look pretty good. I can always find them but it's getting harder to find a decent E30. Seems like E36's are the new E30's as E30's have become classics. Which would you go for?

don't know about classics... beaters and cash cars maybe, but they've been it for a while.

i would go straight to an e46. i've been looking at 330i (coupes 'ci') 2004 (face lift) in the 14-16k that i'm really considering.
    No more e30s for me.

an E30 cabby is pretty far removed from an M3. I like late cabby's but I'd probably go for the E36.

as far as the E46 = yawn. They have not aged well at all..

Was looking at E46 M3's as that's the only one I'd be interested in but I'm looking for more of a 5-8K range car.

If i were to waste 5k on a BMW it'll be an e30. With that kind of money you could find a mint condition E30. E36 M3s that are going for that kind of money generally need work. They're usually driven hard and beaten by their owners. try to find a nice 325is or an Mtech cabby.

Barry, The E30 cabrio would be a very nice complement to your E30M3. When new, list price was almost equal - quality build is in both - both are really the best at what they do & they are very different cars. The cabrio is a great cruiser to be enjoyed in its own right.

              a 5-8k e30 is going to be much nicer than a 5-8k e36 m3

You've got the most distinctive of M3s, the E30, and you've got a nice, modern sedan in the E39. So and E36 M3, while a great car, is kind of a blah addition. What role does it serve for you? Is it really going to interest you? If it were a convertible, then there's more sense there, but you didn't mention that so I think you're just considering an E36 M3 hardtop.

So that leaves another E30. You've got the ultimate hardtop, so another one such as a 325iS isn't going to add much. However, a convertible would bring a whole different dimension. Take the $8k, sit on it until you find one of the guys selling a very nice example, then jump in.

Mtech Cab, Spend that 8k on a clean example and really get it into beautiful shape, that will definitely impact your collection much more than an e36 or an e30 325is

I don't remember the guy's username on here, but there is a schwarz cabbie e30 with cardinal seats, plastic bumper swap and I think it had bbs RS's. That was my absolute favorite looking cab yet. It was just tastefully done. He used to post on here quite a bit, but I haven't seen him around much anymore.

So if you're going to be getting a nice cab like the one explained (i'm sure someone remembers his username; I think he was in texas or something?) or something like Corvallis's, then go for it. I just don't think verts are all that great unless you put some work in to the exterior.

Found it. His name is vacman on here, and his car is beautiful:

All that car really needs is some sort of rear valence along with a good cut/polish. And if you'd add an s50, s52 or m52 it would be even greater.

I think you know what my vote is. Just don't half ass it.
