Not to say the M42's not fun- it's just 2/3 of an M50, and never will be anything more. Except:

As to value vs. price, who the hell knows these days? I don't have beardy hipster money,
so I think that's a $2500 car. But maybe I'm just jelly.

That's a good question. I think it's a cheap padding solution protecting your head when you're rocketing around in that thing.

There's K24 swap kits out now. Prolly the best choice of replacement for the M42 if you want to maintain the 'baby M3' spirit of the car.

or N52. double the power for the same weight, modern and easy to find, and keeps it in the family.

M42 is fun though as-is. If I had one I'd just drive it until it blew up and replace it with an N52.
