Are classified scams a common issue?

I got some pms off of my classifieds post looking for euro bumpers and they looked kind of scammy to begin with. They weren’t asking for any sensitive info yet, so I just went along with it and emailed the addresses provided. I attached the responses I got back. Now I’m 95% sure these are scams. How often does this happen with classifieds on here? I kind of expected the forums to be much safer that other sites when it comes to scams.

Always have been, unfortunately. It happens on any classic car forum where parts may be of decent value.

Why would you expect them to be safer? The registration requirements are nil, and the moderation on the vast majority of sites is completely volunteer. Fortunately, scammers are lazy or are poorly automated and don't really have the ability to do much more than copy/paste things you send them, so I now suggest that everyone do something like the following:

WTB Title: E30 (VW) Euro Bumpers

The idiots will probably just copy it, and most legitimate users will understand the game.

Do a search on the email address they provide you... you'll find they are scamming folks on other sites also.
