Though this sounds counter-productive, a felony charge earns you the right to a real trial and the legal defenses associated therewith, as well as placing the burden of proof on the state--for misdemeanor speeding, you must prove your innocence, which is significantly harder.

Next time the cop nails you for +20, hoof the throttle and see if you can eek out the other 5 mph.
worst idea ever, cause when you lose the trial because the state has all the proof, and get felony time and a felony on your record your life is pretty much over. plus im pretty sure felony speeding in cali is double the limit. anyone know about that?

Now that I've had a chance to sleep off last night...

I see I used inaccurate words. What I meant to say was criminal instead of felony, and civil instead of misdemeanor. Civil tickets have only the possibility of an administrative "trial", while a criminal charge gets you all the gravy.

Beating a ticket is not that tough. If you've got half a brain and know some tricks of the trade when it comes to ticket defense (there are LOTS of good books on the subject), it can be done. I've taken two of these to court, won one free and clear, and got a much-reduced sentence--no points and 1/3 the fine--on another.

I think it would probably take a 242-mph ticket in a CCX to earn a felony...

I think felony in Cali is double the speed limit or over 100.

        Correct me if I'm wrong.

              over 90 is correct.
but who drives 65 in cali? no one does. everyone drives at least 70-75. 80 and up is pushing it a bit but i can not say i have never done it.
i have been a passenger in a merc doing 120, and i did 120 in my 2002 while i still had it. fun but dumb. both the phrases if you play with fire you are going to get burned, and no pain no game come to mind.

Wow that sucks. I got a ticket for going 90 in a 70 in January on I-59 in AL and it was only $112.

How much time did you spend doing this?
I think it would be easier and more cost-effective to pay the fine, do the online traffic school and be done with it. No time off work, no travel expenses etc.

Thats funny I got a ticket last week going 84 in a 65. It was west palm beach FL. Luckily the trooper dropped to 74. It could have been 4 points on my license and $241.00. Instead it was 3 points and $116.00. First speeding ticket

Germany bases your fines on what your annual salary is, correct? I wish they put that into effect in the states.
