Help me find my dad's old 325i

I've been recently bit by the E30 bug and I wanted to see if it's possible to locate my dad's old car. It was sold off as part of a lien sale in San Diego back in September of 2010, which is the most I really know about it.

    VIN: WBAAA2304KAE71025
Plate: 2NQP769 (CA plate, as of 2010 iirc)

    1989 325i - Automatic

Engine was swapped to an S52 and the transmission was swapped to a manual gearbox as well. Also had a 5 lug swap and chrome accent rings for the gauge cluster.

It seems to have been smog tested once in CA (Nov 2010) after the sale, so perhaps it's still in the state?

I don't really expect this to be found any time soon but maybe someone will look up the VIN on the web at some point in the future and find this thread haha

I cant help you, but that's a cool looking e30. Color coded lip and side skirts doesn't often look good on an S1, looks great. Hopefully you can find it.

One of my best friends is a CHP trooper, I believe he can run the plate/VIN and get a last registered address.

I’ll ask him tomorrow and let you know if I get anything.

Asked my friend today - I guess it’s a BIG no-no policy wise for them to run plates for personal use like that. Used to not be a big deal but then people started abusing it too much I guess.

Sorry to clog up your thread, but you can pay $5 and use the CA DMV form INF70 to do a vehicle records request.

Yeah, that's really unfortunate but it makes sense. Thanks for trying though—that's pretty cool lol

That's more than alright—I would but I'm fairly certain that I need to demonstrate that I have a valid reason for requesting the information, and personal discovery isn't valid :/

Long overdue update—I ran the VIN in EpicVIN and it showed that it was crushed in New York sometime around 2022, so that puts an end to that

Regardless, I have my own E30 (albeit in significantly worse condition) so its a fresh start!

Aww.. after such a long thread revival I was honestly hoping you had found her... :( She was totally a keeper too! Sounds like someone wrecked her pretty badly... and I mean... if not.... whomever crushed her better be in prison for doing so. Post pics of your new e30!!
