After all the e46, e38, e39 e90 and e60s etc I spend my life bleeding over all day, working on my any of my e30s is like a Zen prayer.

I don't know what the hell anyone around me thinks about it because I'm in a state of absolute tranquility.

I like it, alot. Although it does get the stress levels going sometimes.

And the sense of satisfaction of taking it for a spin afterwards... excellent.

As for down time, i just drive the YJ jeep.. Not that its ideal

i'll find myself fixing something that didnt really need fixing sometimes, just to get away.
working on the car is never a source of stress. fixing something or upgrading is way too rewarding to be concerned about the path to success. And eventhough some results arent always exactly what i wanted and require a revisit, its annoying no doubt, but something to look forward to again, for the anticipaiton of satisfaction.

My e30 causes more stress than it cures.

But, the stress that it cures outweighs the stress that it causes.

          Does that make sense?

eg: midnight summer cruise > fucking stupid wire shorts.

After working on a 16v mk2 VW, the m10 e30 is almost a walk in the park. Although my mechanical skills aren't really that great.

I love working on my car, except waiting for parts and/or running into unforeseen problems. I also get strange urges to work on my car at like 11pm, but I guess that just happens when you're home from school in the summer and bored on a weekday.

I like working on my car, until stuff starts going wrong... which is always. I'd like it a lot more if I had a second car.

But yeah the sense of accomplishment also plays a big role... it's also just cool to see and understand how everything works.

I wish I had more time to work on it, putting stuff off forever because of working a lot and trying to keep the wife happy makes it a little stressful when you have 20 small, but important jobs to finish at one time. Even worse when expected parts don't show up in time for planned work days. :(

There's nothing stress relieving about fixing a 20-year-old exotic car every weekend to get to work every Monday. Maybe if I didn't have 3 E30's...

Definitely is a source of stress for me. After all I bought my e30 so I could park my truck to work on and tear apart to build up. After the no car, riding around in gf's car while at college for 6 months, while I did the motor swap, its more of a cause of stress when stuff goes wrong, but I never do learn from my lessons. I'm trying to be better about it though and in the process of putting it back to daily driver, my body gets to tired after the long trips anymore.

stress relieving to work on the car by your self some times too

you don't need to hear anyone's nagging or someone else's opinion on something you know your right on.

its kinda interesting to see the contrast in peoples opinions about their e30 being a stress relief

do you really have to fix your car every weekend just to make it driveable?

i've got 3 also, plus 2 e28's. only one e28 is running right now, and none of the e30's. i relieved some stress on saturday by replacing the timing belt on my 88 528e. it was stressing me out.
