Awkward when you see an e30 with a non-enthusiast?

people always get confused when i say my '08 bmw is the daily driver and the '86 is the garage queen. in 10 years a much larger percentage of e30s will be in the hands og enthusiasts.

I thought I met an enthusiast once, but he was just looking for a "Cheap" mechanic.
I consider myself an enthusiast, but the condition of the roads around here won't let me run a lowered car.

I see no other E30's around here. When I do, which is rare, they are bone stock or just not cared for, so I know they're not enthusiasts.

If lucky, the E36 will die peacefully, in its natural habitat, and be given the prestigious honor of donating its parts to an E30

I see a few non-enthusiasts around but for the most part everyone waves back when I wave.

                Maybe it's a MN thing?

Nope, I've got some flattened dual exhaust pipes and gouges on the lower A-arms of my old school Cutlass. ;) That's at stock height.

It's true. And a lot of those who aren't really enthusiasts still have a kind of undefined love for their e30s. I came out of work recently to find a woman in the sitting in an absolutely mint '88 brilliantrot 325is. She bought it new with 32 miles on the odo, obviously loved and cared for this car over 190k miles, but gave me a confused look at my reference to "e30." She was more than happy to talk about how much she enjoyed and appreciated the car and -- refreshingly -- had absolutely no plans for it but to keep it running perfectly for the next 190k.

That being said, I can't get a highbeam nod to save my life on an average day sighting...

I see at least 3-5 week and I have gotten 1 thumbs up in 2 years.

The few that I do see around here are usually clapped out rustbuckets. What do you expect from Cleveland though? Most folks around here drive the newer German stuff since they need the latest status symbol to look good so I usually don't pay attention to them. Kinda sucks - I'd like to meet some enthusiast types around here. That way I wouldn't have to bore my non-car buddies with my automotive jibberish...

Although the one day I was at a light and some dude in an NSX pulled up next to me and went apeshit over my car. That was a nice ego boost

Haha I see E30's once in a while, and sadly, most are convertibles.

When I see them, 99.8% of the time they are going in teh complete opposite direction.

I did have one pull behind me a few weeks ago. I stopped at the light (I was in the E36), and I stuck y hand out the window and gave a thumbs up. He honked back. That was cool. They guy must have been in his 50's too.

I have seen a few e30's...I am in the bel air, MD area. and there have been two incidents where ill see an enthusiast and in one case we both bent necks once we realized what just drove past. Another time I was in a turn lane and I look in my side mirror and noticed an e30...he honked =p

although it can certainly be awkward when you're dealing with a non-enthusiast e30 owner. I was at a bonfire not too long ago and its dark as hell but I can still make out that there is a 4dr e30 parked on the grass. So I ask the girl I assumed driving it...DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU ARE DRIVING? she obviously was not concerned but didn't mind talking anyway so we had a nice conversation. I had the chance to ask her a couple more questions throughout the night. Turns out her dad takes care of it and owns another one =p...as well she knew about the Bentley manual :D:D

I wave any time I see an E30. They always wave back. Might not be because of the car though.. I probably just look friendly.

^ You're posting here and not chatting her up?
The funny thing is the only times I've gotten a wave or acknowledgement was from a guy driving an early 6 series CS, like late 60's early 70's CS. I was staring at his car and almost missed the wave. I also got a Hibeam flash and a wave from a guy driving a Golf. Maybe it was the round headlights that confused him.
