dinan e34 m5 motor to e30 swap

well im going to hopefully carfax the car soon. Actually i really have no idea how to go about getting the car, i literally found it, no owner, no nothing, all i have is the VIN. I dont want to just take it because it may have been stolen, its been sitting behind my friends warehouse for about 3 months.

so let me get this straight.. You have what you believe is the more rare euro 3.8 tuned by Dinan sitting in a wrecked M5 behind your buddies' shop, which you want to drop into your E30 but you are afraid to take it because it might be stolen, and you would post pictures but you can't because they are no good.

the whole car looks perfect, except the crash in the backend you cant see in that picture, and if you can notice there is a slight bend in the hood in the picture. other then that, it looks great, even the paint.

I believe the car exists yes, but what I can't wrap my head around is how you are gonna pull off stealing it, or why you would take the risk.

There is a reason why it is there, you just need to find that out first before you start ripping motors out etc.

edit: you've already made one MAJOR mistake and that was posting this info on teh interwebz. If I personally wanted to pull off a stunt like this I most certainly would not be posting on a public forum, or anywhere for that matter. So either you are lying, or just plain stupid. Which one is it?

Im not an idiot. Its behind my friends warehouse. Its been sitting there for 3 months. I ahve the VIN. Im going to figure out who the previous owner is and try to contact them. If there is no previous owner, im stripping the car and putting it back where i found it. Its on my friends property he told me i can take it strip it and put it back. Im posting this on the internet cause i know nobody will find the damn car, if its stolen then im not going to do anything with it. So i think the only person who is stupid, is you for even caring about this. So like i said before go find a life outside of "teh interwebz."

Chill out brobrocop. You came on here with big hopes and aspirations yet you don't have a computer. No one knew your situation or level of knowledge and to be honest we still don't, he was only trying to help a brotha out with some advice. Stop getting butthurt.

And yes, you are going to have to be very determined in order to go through with the swap if this is your first time, even if you have every tool known to man at your disposal.

To the OP, I wasn't questioning your skills or determination in getting a swap of this magnitude done. Hell, you're probably better then me at wrenching, I just like hearing the ratchet gears working!

But the point I was trying to make & the sense of what I got from reading this thread was something along the lines of, "I've got a free Dinan M5 motor, how cool is it going to be to drop this sucker in my e30 & have a world-class, ass-kicking, supercar eating BMW"? And I'm sure you know, this is simply not the case.

I'm also assuming you know that the M5 motor is not an everyday motor, Dinan is not your everyday tuner and this swap is not an everyday installation. I was already assuming you know this is going to involve a lot more then changing motor mounts or possibly fabricating spacers to drop the sub-frame.

Of course I want to see this done & if you are in a position to make this happen, so much the better for you. But having a free Dinan M5 motor isn't even half the equation. Hell, I think that's the easiest part of this whole ordeal if you really think about it.

Again, not trying to sound condescending, but from some of the remarks I've seen here (like accessing the web from a PS3) don't even begin to scratch the surface of what you are trying to accomplish. But I would love to see you succeed. Hell, I hope your install becomes a sticky for a "DIY"!.

As for not helping you reach your goals, how about this: Contact some of the better known, or more reliable BMW tuners in the area & see what they say. I'm not saying you have to go to Dinan or Active Autowerks, but look at what a relative newcomer shop like Groma Fabrications did by shoe-horning a V8 into the e30 chassis. I think they were prepping that car for nearly a year before digging into engine management.

But make no mistake, I want to see you succeed at this! :up:

geezes i feel like i just read an essay. I contacted a few different bmw shops around where i live. Not one of them said they have put that motor in a e30. Thats why i asked on this forum. I think its funny that from the way i type you think im less of a knowledgable human being? Im much smarter and younger then most of you on here, do not think low of me. Ive learned more in the years i have lived then most of you have. Pretty sure one of the reasons that i've learned so much is that i dont waste my days on the computer like you.

Do you have access to that information? Think about it, if I walked up to your car and grabbed the VIN, then did a search and got your name, address etc I could easily now pass myself off as you, get a key cut, and call it a day. as i was typing this, at work about 5 mintes ago, i realized your stupid and not worth my time. i had to do a piercing and came back and decided to write this instead of what i was originally going to say.

alright fine, your not stupid. Im just pissed cause i feel like im getting nowhere with this post. Why cant everyone just have positive things to say like "that looks awesome good luck," along with advice that will actually help me get this car and do wat i want with it.
