One of our instructors up in Quebec has an M62 in his E30 race car. Tons and tons of custom fabrication were required, including cutting into the firewall and transmission tunnel.

The only reason I would bother is if you're club racing and absolutely need a BMW engine. Otherwise, just stick with an LSx + T56 swap. Compared to the M62, the LSx is:
        • lighter
        • smaller
        • easier to fit
        • cheaper to buy
        • cheaper to tune
        • much cheaper to build up
        • has much better aftermarket support

          ^^Yeah.

My S52 car feels about dead even with a friend's 4.4 litre car. His car weighs 200 or so pounds more than mine and has a lot more torque below 3k. It was a lot of work though, that really is a big motor to fit in there. As was said above, it took a decent bit of fabrication. Cant wait to do a track day with him and see how they compare there..

A BMW V-8 swap is point less. Unless its a S65.

                    NO such animal. 535 is a M30 period. 535i with a 5 speed is a fun car.

How much does an LSx weigh? The M62 only weighs around 300lb if I remember right. I found an M62 with a six speed manual for cheeeap. But now I'm curious of the LSx.

it's definitely lighter. you can hate on pushrod motors all you want, but when it comes to V8, they are much better for weight and packaging. the motor is just more compact despite being higher displacement.

The only thing the M62 has over the LS1 is the fact that it's made by BMW and people aren't sticking them in everything with 4 wheels. Performance wise, forget about it. LS1 hands down.

I think an M62 mated to a 6 speed in an E28 sounds more fitting

So 540's and m60b40 are solid right? My recent financial gains and the alure v8 power are making me want one with 6 spd or atleast manual.(not sure if they came with 5 speeds)
