It looks like there are rust spots behind the valance and check the condition of the radiator support to make sure it's straight. Whatever wrecked the front bumper and valance could have done a lot more damage than you think.

And.....look at the car during the day time. you would be surprised as to what you may not notice at night.

I paid $2400 for my '89i two years ago, same color combo and tranny, but mine was (still is) in better shape.

Get him to $2000

Im pretty sure he would go down to 2k, he sounds pretty determined to sell it, he told me he and his wife decided to sell it.

I paid $3400 for mine, mint, no rust, perfect running, 5 speed eta, 89k miles ($100 over book ~2.5yrs ago). Don't know if that helps or not...

Sounds like you should offer $1,300.
