Those headers are worth more than 97% of r3v's E30s.

LOL, I was really considering them but... I am not spending 4k on headers alone. I will spend 4k on an entire exhaust but not just for headers. I am sure I could get a set made for less.

I believe the 4.8 has the same head design as the 4.4m62 and 4.9 S62. If it does, it may be better for me to buy used m5 or 540 headers and have a reputable shop install/modify them to fit. I am sure that will be less than 4k.

4k and they do not have any recorded gains.

Those prices are meant for the typical X5 buyer that has more money than brains. It may not have any recorded gains, but it provides a huge increase in smug. You should buy it.

the markup on those must be at least 500%. even the best dyno proven headers are only around 1k for most cars.

I'm thinking you could have some custom made for less than that. I have a buddy that could do it but I don't think you'll want to ship your x5 here for that.. although it still may be cheaper. :p

so why exactly do you want headers if there are no proven gains? am I missing something?

Like most performance parts, the gains have not been recorded. IE heads, cams etc are typically never recorded and if they are, they are usually skewed.

Have any of you ever seen 4.8is manifolds? They are pea-shooters as is the entire exhaust system. Headers, cats and mufflers will definitely provide and increase but for 10k I will pass.

On my M5 I gained over 30whp from headers on the S62 4.9l. I imagine 15-25whp would be realistic with headers, high flow cats and an exhaust.

I have a buddy that does decent fab work but.... I was hoping there was something off the shelf.

                  WOW,

Are these comments really called for? After reading some of your post, I wouldn't be commenting about other peoples brains.

Noted. Yeah, screw those prices. I'd bet cash you could find a good shop to custom build all of it for you for significantly less than 10k. If you have the tools and downtime available, building headers yourself isn't totally out of the question.

I hate to emagine how much profit there making on that shit.

your X5 is only gonna be so fast, just make it louder and im sure you will be just as happy, and with more money in your pocket.
