i only have the spare so I ordered some blanks online and took it to a locksmith and they were able to cut it. Doesnt work perfectly but I think it's b/c the original key is worned down a bit and I got the bmw2 x59 blanks which has a small head compared to the original spare key I have. The local hardware store couldnt copy the key b/c they didn't have the "cartridge" to use whatever that means.

      Bullshit, fuck that.

Call the dealer, get a new key cut from the VIN. Generally under $20...now go get new keys cut!

I had some spares cut at Ace Hardware for $2.25/ea

and they work great (cut with a hand-operated machine btw, not with one of the Lowe's automatic dealies)

^I think this last one was at the discretion of the dealer because the guy had a note from what is probably a junkyard that is known around the area. But you do need a title, otherwise you would be able to track down E30's, write down the VIN's and go crazy with breaking into other people's cars. We wouldn't want that!

Where'd you guys buy your keys, just through the stealership?
I have a couple spares back at home, but I'm down in LA for the summer and I'm fucked if I lose mine.
