lol I see what you're saying. So you think I should just replace the whole motor just to be sure? I'm not opposed to this idea. I have also been entertaining the idea of building a stroker, or doing a 24v swap...

The shop that did the work apparently just put everything together without checking it. I didn't tell them not to check it, but I didn't tell them TO check it either.
I called Metrix and left a message asking about what it would take for them to honor their warranty. I told them the head was not magnafluxed or pressure tested by the shop that put it on, and that I used their gaskets and still the head only lasted two weeks. So hopefully they'll be compliant and either refund my money or send me another head.

Metrix will NOT pick up their phone. I've called them every 30 minutes for the past 3 hours and they won't pick up or call me back. Time to move to email I guess...

Well, I was on the phone all day today with the three parties involved, Metrix, Motorworks (who did the work), and Performance Imports (who has my car now). Metrix won't honor their warranty because they believe my problem is due to a bad installation. Motorworks is standing by their work and have said the problem must have been the head I gave them. Performance Imports doesn't feel comfortable pointing the finger at Motorworks and trying to help my convince them that the installation was sloppy.
So what I think I'm gonna do, depressing as it is, is put this e30 on the back burner. Throw a cover on it, and let it sit in the garage until I have more time/money to think about repairing her again. In the mean time I've been watching craigslist and the for sale section here and at e30tech for prospective replacement e30s. There are some decent, cheap (<$2k) cars within an hour or so of where I live so I think my plan is gonna be to find a beater e30, drive it as long as I can, and eventually part it out to make some money back
So if anyone knows of any e30s for sale in the ct/nyc area, drop me a line.

omgsh dude... not tryna be an ass or anything but damn are you stubborn..
basicly what everybody is tellin you to do is "buy a used long-block" and swap it in...
you have have just turned your car into a ho! you shouldnt have been trying to find out if the bottom is good or not, its had coolant run through it when you floored it. that block is toast and even if its not now, as soon as you get a head it will fail within 75miles...
stop looking at other e30's and maintain the one you have... Honestly, if you cant tame this e30, what makes you think you can tame another?
"<$2k" would be buying the used motor $200-500 then having it put in for $200-800
then boom, all your porblems are solved..
as I said at first, didnt mean to be a dick or offensive, it just that all this really could've been avoided...

Supplying my own parts (motor in this case) and having someone put it in is exactly what happened the last time. Yes its the most cost-effective option, but theres no guarantee the motor will make it to its next oil change. Then what?

Okay, and buying a $2000 e30 isn't the smartest thing to do. For 2 Gand you're most likely going to get a POS. Maybe you shouldn't look into e30s and start looking at something a little more reliable to DD.1993 325ic Schwarz/Natur

buy the motor out of a car thats still running... Have them start it, run it at idle for 20 min, compression check and then purchase. that simple.
I do understand that buyin another engine, it could fail... Thats a risk we all take. I doubt you'll get fucked again...
if you buy another e30, it might not make it home... then what?
stop making excuses to avoid doing whats neccessary...

I'd buy a new motor using the method e30slut said, then I would take it to another shop. Post in your regional subforum to find a reputable shop and take it to them. I highly doubt you'd get hit with lightning twice.
