      yea... m20 flavored milkshake FTW

dude, I remember your thread on what happened to the last motor and I told you to just get another complete engine and do it yourself... You would have been done a long time ago and driving instead off stressing...

A good shop with good mechanics wouldn't just throw on parts provided by the customer without first testing them. That way they know they can continue doing there work and put a gurantee on it.

the shop is fully at fault and should pay for everything and fix everything. I mean unless the deal you worked out with them was "hey I got a head and I dont have time to put it on. can you do it for me? oh while you're at it throw these parts on too" then they are at fault. but if thats the case you are fucked. theres nothing you can do.

      so again, my suggestion
if you supplied the fualty parts, then you need to go buy a complete running b25 and take it to them so they can change it out quickly. It takes literally no time to take the motor out an e30.

if they fucked up, call your lawyer and spend that money on him or sue em and have the shop pay the lawyer.

sorry bro but either way you're gonna have to shell out cash if you want your car back aytime soon...

the head, gaskets, w. pump, t-belt, everything was from metrix motorsport...

what exactly went wrong? is it a faulty part problem? human error? or was this just bound to happen to the engine eventually?

Human error in some form, Either installed incorrectly. Or they installed a warped head without checking it first.

Have a second well respected mechanic/ engine builder look at the engine with the shop taking it apart, to provide a second opinion. I have been called in to do this in the past, on behalf of machine shops. Each time, the head was leaking because the previous head gasket material had not been properly cleaned off the block's deck surface. I have also seen blocks crudely cleaned off with sanders or scotchbrite on sanders, and the deck was uneven from the abrasive cutting it.

I got a 944 really cheap, simply because the head gasket was done 3 times (2 were "professionals") and water/oil contamination persisted, so the owner flipped and junked it.
it had been bad diagnosis (oil/water heat exchanger was bad). I fixed the real problem, and the head gasket (just done by "pros") then failed within 25 miles, massively. Reason was once again, old head gasket bits left on the deck.

You also need to verify that your head doesn't have a crack in it between water and oil, it happens.

If the parts were bad, it's your problem, if the workmanship was bad, it's theirs.

Parts can be bad, and human error abounds. I'd recommend documenting the teardown.

looks like a bad/warped/craked head or a sloppy installation

              it IS there fault

we tried to warn you the first time... but I would still expect them to pay

do NOT drive the car, it will only further the damage

                Update

tl;dr: Metrix head is fucked. Bottom end who knows. Hopefully with Metrix's warranty they'll send me another head.

Okay so I had the car towed from my house to a much more reputable shop (the one I have been using for about a year now, until this fiasco).

They got the head off and sent it to a machine shop. Apparently the head is cracked, the intake system is contaminated, pieces were falling off, etc. The whole thing was a mess. They will be looking into the bottom end to see if that at least held up.

SO. I guess my next step is to take this up with Metrix Motorsport to see if I can utilize my 1 year warranty on the head. Its entirely possible that it was NOT a sloppy installation, and that the head came warped or something. I mean, it was making a LOT of noise for the whole two weeks that it was on the car.

I'm considering telling Metrix that the head wasn't even installed (I'll say I haven't had the time until now) and that it was pressure tested and determined to be faulty. This will make it much easier to convince them that the head was at fault from the beginning, as opposed to cracking when the head gasket went. Besides, the head was making a ton of noise the entire time, so its entirely possible that it did come faulty.

I guess I'll update once I talk with Metrix...

i dont even know what to say about this. its a very unfortunate situation but from what you have said id write it off as an expensive lesson. the fact it was overheating and you had to "floor it" to maintain any kind of speed tells me you need some 'learnin" about cars.
no offense intended but thats just not wise in the least. i would bet that bottom end is trashed. not only that, you post on an open forum the fact youre going to try and deceive metric motorsports and lie to them about the head... i think you need to rethink your approach ...

I've already accepted that this is an expensive lesson. Right now I'm just trying to minimize the damage.

And you're right about deceiving Metrix, I shouldn't do that and I'm not going to. I was only considering it because I'm really trying to save as much money as possible

The only way for you to save money would be to do this:

                          a) get a refund or partial refund for that head if it was damaged.
                          b) purchase a good used m20 long block
                          c) sell the good parts off of your m20

I missed Metrix's 30 day money back guarantee by about 3 or 4 days... so the best I'll get from them is a replacement head. And I have a few complete motors lined up, but all depends on the condition of my bottom end

You can leave the bottom end alone and replace main/rod bearings while the motor is in the car. The problem is all that mixed coolant/oil shit everywhere is going to be a PITA to completely clean.

I would try and work with getting a refund and buy a used engine instead. If you'll have to pay someone to work on your bottom end it will cost more than a used m20b25....

I'll do my best to work with Metrix on getting a refund. Right now there is no work scheduled to be done on the bottom end, they are just gonna tell me if its good or bad. If its bad I'll def just replace the whole motor
