Yea, I think you should part out the car due to the "crank window conversion." Seems like a great solution.

^^Um, it doesnt have power windows? Then... what does it have?

Are your switches just not functioning properly? Usually dirty contacts are the biggest issues with the factory power window setup. Converting to crank windows is the least of your problems, from the sound of it.

Head gasket and water pump will take you a weekend to do, dont worry about it too much. It's not much money either, just effort.

And a general question-- What are crank window setups worth? I've got a set that's been collecting dust in the garage for ages.

i would probably worry about the other things before the windows. but like has been said, you need to change the whole assembly.

But that's not the R3V way. Gotta do all the mods first, then do all of the actual maintenance work.

How much weight do you actually save by yanking the power window motors?

please refer to post #14 in this thread. you need to change the regulators.

I have the full regulator setup, with cranks, but of course no glass. The crank regulators work fine with the early glass.

@Wheelhop-- You save a good bit of weight (the weight of the motors). The door feels much lighter with crank windows than electric. Especially if you remove the door bar while you are in there. I really probably should put them in, but I've been getting my crank window fix from the 2002 lately.
