I agree with Jordan too - general knowledge IS far more valuable. But a degree opens doors that otherwise aren't there - I never graduated from college, and I am sure I would be making more and be better respected if I had. I DO plan to go back for the rest of school when I can afford to work about half-time, then I will have proven my competence (I know, it's 80% BS) and won't have to do it all over again at every job.

My friends dad makes about 300 grand a year with no college, similarly my dad makes close to 100g/year with no college. Im really starting to see that common sence overrides degrees/ect. Also, my brothers friends dad makes a shitload of money, probably close to half a mil/year with no college. Both of his kids ride in new 2004 Mach 1 Mustangs (yes they are twins and each have one), and are trading them in when they get the new 2005's in. Oh, and there previous rides were new Lexus rx330's. Thats all possible with no college education.

No one would deny that it's possible - just a hell of a lot less likely!
My girlfriend is another case of this: she has no degree, some college, and is pretty smart, but hates to work. She was bartending for the last year and got sick of drunk guys. So she got a 25 hr/wk job administrating at an investor relations company. Two weeks ago she got a raise from $20/hr to salary: $200,000.00/yr! WTF? The owner wants her to run the place when he retires in a few years. He took home $15 million last year and has no degree either.

College can mature you a lot and prepare you for life.....once you get past the "college is the rockorz 7$&#-yeah stage"
Don't do it for cars alone though......

I'm not in school right now, and I'm making a meager 22k a year (not meager to some, but you can't raise a family on it) I'm going to night school to get some sort of degree, becuase I can't get into some of the real money making positions here at the bank without one. I can get into one after I have had good enough experience, but that will take upwards of 6 years. I'm just gonna work here and go to school and come out ok. Oh, and my inspiration for work....
Then this stuff....
Many more but these are off the top of my head....

The higher you go in school, the more initial opportunities are avaliable to you.
I dont know any high school grads that can pull the same job as somone fresh out of grad school with an MBA.
I do agree that education doesn't make you any "smarter" (maybe book smart) or determine how successful you'll be.
