Demand for e30 m20 Cold Air Intake

    Guys,
Does anyone make a decent cold air intake for the e30? We are going to produce one for the 325i but we are looking for some input. Here is a picture of the one we produce for the e28 m30. This one is red but they are usually black.
    Thanks,
    Todd

No, I can't think of a single true CAI for E30's.

Because there really isn't room for all that piping, nor is it really needed. Heatshields are rather make your own too.

Wouldn't it be possible to use the stock hole used by the airbox for the cold air intake? That's what I was thinkin of doin.

You can put a cone filter there but you wont get much cold air. Build a heatsheild and its fine though. An actual intake consists of moving the filter to a place where cold air is actually coming from.

I would be interested in 3 of them...My girl friend's cabrio, mine, and my buddy in town. Like Jordan said they may not be all that necessary but damnit they look/sound cool. Ice baby! 8)

Sounds like there is adequate interest. We'll go ahead and build them. We'll certainly give the board members here a discount!

I made one, Dynoed it back to back to the stock airbox and the HP was the SAME!

Maybe on a 325 it's a little different, but I feel as long as you have the AFM the air filter will not do much if anything.

If you don't have the heat shield I LOST 12hp.

I'll be honest. I don't expect much gain, if any from a CAIS. The factory airbox is excellent. My goal is to design a CAIS that does not cost any HP. For me the asthetics and sound of the CAIS are its best attributes.

One dyno pull cannot be taken as an absolute. The car could have easily dynoed 12hp less on dyno run #2 vs run #1. In fact my car always dynoes at lessHP on the 2nd run.

I bet I could put a CAIS on the e30 and dyno it on run #1 and then put the stock airbox back on and dyno it on run #2 and claim that the CAIS was an improvement.

Dyno numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt.
