Put new battery in and now it idles poorly

I just reconnected the battery in my '89 325i manual and now it idles rough and very low. When it comes to a stop it wants do die but seeks a bumpy but level 600 rpm. It ran perfect before I disconnected the battery a hour ago. Any ideas? TIA

The ECU needs time to relearn.
    It will sort itself out.

I had this happen to one of my Audi's and it took a few minutes. What should I expect with the E30? Thanks for the response (and relief).

It should be fine within the next day or so. I just pulled my battery to install my HIDs and it idled rough for the rest of the day, but the next morning it was back to normal.

^ you must have installed the battery quickly to prevent the internal memory battery's from dieing...

Ironed itself out on its' own today. Thanks for the input from all of you. On the good side though, I'm willing to bet I blew all the carbon off the plugs.:D
