I would pay $4K right now, providing it isn't a complete rustbucket. I would assume the regular stuff such as battery box and rear valence.

Seriously though, if you pass on it, I am really really interested.

If it isn't sold and the guy is asking $4k, take it and don't look back. To keep it or to part it, it's still a wise investment. If he's asking you to name the price, I would say $5-5.5k is reasonable.

Throw it on s14.net and see if it last week for $4k. If I had a place to store it id pay up to $6k for it.

                      [QUOTE=UNHCLL;1592295]

Do you know what a NOS 2.3L block is worth? A block alone from BMW is worth ~$2500. Good luck finding a decend USED block & crank that doesn't need a hone/rebore. But hey, again what do I know? ;)

Again pricing new................ This is used.

                      13,000.00 EUR = 18,112.16 USD

Hmmm, seems like thats a good bit MORE than what I stated the car is worth? Almost 3 times?

Spain values cars considerably higher due to taxes. 28% on a vehicle Germany values them a little more realistically and so does France.

                      E34? E28? E39?
                      M5 does not = M3
Production numbers are even higher on an M5 than an M3.[QUOTE]

                      Check your numbers..........
                      US e30 M3 ~5300 imported
                      US E34 M5 ~1500 imported

the S38 sells for more than a S14.
That was my point. The ad on Ebay has the engine and trans for sale with0 bids at $4895.
                      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-e...#ht_500wt_1280

My only point is the M3 gets inflated values because of what everybody thinks they are worth.

Pristine they are worth a lot
Good condition with history - around 10k
and a rat with damage seems to be getting the majority vote of around 4-5k.

The 2 for sale on Ebay now, do not count - not original.

I can entirely respect s38e30's view here.... in Europe pricing is not what it is in the USA. Availability is also different....

I just didn't want people to take blanket statements of "The car is worth $2500" seriously.

If s38e30 is also in the dismantling/parts resale business, that would further explain why one might value the vehicle even lower than someone who's restoring it. The margin on the parts sold increases the lower the value of the car.

                        Respectfully,
                        Chris

The statement is not meant to be a blanket value.

What would the car be worth to you with a bad motor and accident damage?

If the motor is good it obviously adds value.

To clear up some location issues. I am military stationed over Spain for about 1 year now. I lived in Corpus Christi, and New Jersey before this and that is where I am basing my pricing. My US E34 M5 came from New York and the other from Jersey. Both high value areas, but both were reasonable due to overall condition.

Here you have to think of the price the car is selling for as 1 dollar = 1 euro. I am pretty sure the average European doesn't go around thinking of pricing in terms of US dollars!
For those of us that get paid in USD we have to think of it as 1 euro = ~$1.40 USD. I think that is where some confusion and sarcasm started.

You stated the Euro conversion factor, not us. You can't buy a engine here in the states from the dealer without a usable core now. I looked into going this route last year and that is why i bought my rebuilt engine from a known builder thru another person. It came with a 262CR dogleg and HD clutch with down pipe and some accesories for 5k.

S38 seem to go for less money these days...as the cars they are in are either rotted or crap with exception of some decent ones out there.

no, the car is not sold, i said feces because i thought someone had more pics of this car, but they were talking about a diff. car.

I am going to look at this car on Sunday, anything special to look for other than the obvious stuff that any E30 enthusiast would know to look for?

I would buy that peice of shit so fast!

if dude is only asking 4k, shove 3500 in his face and take that shit.. you can probably double that just by changing the front end..

Guys on s14 should be able to set you straight, might even be able to check VIN # on it for you. Def have the engine looked over before deciding on a price.
