Can u imagine an M car with a 4500rpm redline?
This. Massive torque is fun (I just found out since I got to drive my boss' Duramax dually and an Isuzu NPR), but taching out at a whopping 3500 rpms sucks donkey balls.

And for the record, the 1 series is ugly as sin.

No Z4M because it's basically reworking the car to be exactly like an e92 m3 vert, thus cannabalizing sales. Bad idea.
Z4 has 2 seats, M3 has 4 seats. That's actually a pretty big difference when it comes to car shopping.

Have a family? Need the M3. Retired and the kids have moved out? Get the Z4M.

So what you're saying is Z4M is is an old people car just like a Buick or Lincoln. Got it.

Can't say I know too many young people shrugging at the $60,000 price tag on a car with next to no practicality.

Aside from those involved in illicit activities, of course.

That's probably because you live in Alberta.. I see plenty of people in their late twenties to early 30's driving around cars worth that much or more.
