Lol, I have witnesses!!Originally posted by e30MattUmm... right.Originally posted by PanamaE30cupholders? for what? chug!!!
reminds me of last weekend... driving through a mountain road (i need to go back and take pictures in the day... my cabrio went offroad buahaha) while drinking a beer and smoking.. didn't even fall into any holes either :)
i'll get pics, then you'll see.. it was hilarious though.. my passenger is a total believer in his Eclipse.. the whole way up he was like "my car could make it". then i drove through a shallow stream, or a very small river - whichever you prefer, and he was like "ok, i love my car too much for this shit. same, used that system since i've owned it. We also learned the e30 has a built in bottle opener as well.Originally posted by trentthe best cup holder in an e30 is the between the center console and passenger seat by the seat belt buckle. been using that for years and never had a problemComment

word up to ghetto makeshift cupholders. i tried it in my gf's e36. it doesn't work. she is after me to find her cupholders on ebay. fyi, my sport seats hold soda cans perfectly in between the levers on my side.I retired my E30 for now...

I installed the cupholder like the one you posted a picture of.. because it was given to me. I REALLY wish I hadn't though. (installation was kinda involved - cut the carpet and etc, so I can't go back easily now)
The stupid thing is really in the way when shifting.. and when you actually have a drink in it, I find it nearly impossible to shift (the way I like to anyway).
Go with another style.. or better yet none at all. Having drinks in the car is a bad idea anyway. ;)

I have one, and it drives me nuts. the track mechanism rattles like crazy. the only reason I've kept it is for the armrest, but I'll probably ditch it once the 5 speed goes in. the cupholder can be handy but I rarely ever use it.Comment

Despite the fact that I have been a proponent of them for years only two people have ever understood the beauty and simplicity of a modified 7-series cupholder.
It grips the cell phone tray better than it does the console in the 7:

And it goes in the glovebox when its not in use:

Ima going to assume that all of you who think cupholders are useless have never had to commute on the highway regularly. I like them then and only then which is why my option had to be removeable.Im now E30less.

That is a cell phone tray??? I thought it was for pens! I use the dash tray for my cell. It's closer to the cig lighter. BUT I guess back when our cars were new, cell phones were much bigger. But they were a handset at that time...usually in this HUGE briefcase looking thing, or mounted into the car. (My car had one mounted, now has holes on pass side :()Originally posted by Ryan StewartIt grips the cell phone tray better than it does the console in the 7:

ANYWAY
Where do you get a MODIFIED 7 series cup holder? Or what kinds of modifications go into making it usable in an e30?
Cup holders aren't so much an issue for me, I drink TONS of bottled water a day, that usually just gets thrown on the pass seat. BUT the occasional drive through diet coke, and now that it is fall, HOT CHOCOLATE, need a bit more securing. I have spilled one too many of those on the seat. Thank goodness I carry a couple rags and have leather seats. But I am not interested in doing this anymore either.
Thanks so much for all your input guys. (and Rachel) It seems like there are lots of options out there.
Just a question, how tall are you guys that feel the armrest gets in the way of shifting? I am close to 6 feet, and my elbo is no where NEAR where the armrest would sit. I would actually have to lean an inch or so to use it.

I have one... and I think Ryan G has one too. It works great. Put it in the door panel on the drivers side up by the power mirror control.Originally posted by PanamaE30I was thinking about LukasBMW cupholders.. not bad and cheaper that the bavauto ones and they're exactly the same thing.Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.Comment
