the low side is along strut tower. you may see a black cap unturn it, if there looks like a threaded tire valve then you will need to switch your system over to r134. On a R134 system the cap on the low side is usually blue.

              That's not a retrofit kit...that's a can of refrigerant.

if you have the retro fit kit, the nipple would be by the right strut tower, on the hard a/c lines

yeah, but if he hasnt been retrofitted he wont be able to fill it anyway. the Red and Blue caps on the 2 ports should be easily visible along the pass side fender, if they are brass caps then you cant use 134

All e30's came with R12 not R134a. You have to buy a specific retrofit kit that has new seals, valves, caps, oil, etc that allows the system to work correctly, it's not just about having a compatible compressor. I believe Pelican Parts sells the kit.

High is red, low is blue. At least that's what on my car and I had mine converted.

Theres only one nipple that the spout will even fit on if you test fit it with half a turn.

                        why is your system 'empty'?
assuming your system has already been retrofitted to r134 and you don't have any leaks, you need to pull a vacuum on it to get all the air out of the system prior to putting refrigerant in, otherwise your a/c will work like shit.
have you replaced your receiver dryer?

I'm trying to decide whether I want to bother converting to R134, try to find some R12 or just delete the AC altogether. After driving in LA on more than one occasion, I'm more inclined to make it work.

Anyone have a guide on how to convert the system to R134?

I don't have the red or blue cap. I have the brass cap.I'll take a picture of it when I get home to show.
