Coolant leaking from small hose near the intake - WTF??

My 90 325i is leaking lots of coolant from a hose running by the intake/ ICV on the drivers side.

Is there a coolant pathway through those hoses? I thought they were vacum hoses, not cooling hoses.

Can someone tell me for sure what the hell is going on? I towed the car to my Indy shop, but coolant in vacum lines tell me blown headgasket. If not then its probably a really cheap easy fix.

Which am I dealing with here? I didnt have time for pics prior to towing the car, sorry.

For faster warm ups in cold climates. Most people down south that have this issue bypass the TB and connect the two hoses.

those are the T/B heater hoses. They heat the throttle body up to prevent icing in cold weather. by-pass or fix as needed.

Please tell me you did NOT take it to Stett's in Plano.

Its more than likely leaking from the throttle body heater set-up, that gasket is notorious for giving out eventually.

No.. not Stetts in Plano. Actually, Teaguer, I teach at an ATI campus and can get installs on about anything, FREE, if you buy the parts and let me take in I can get things like rear wheel bearings, sub frame bushings and all that stuff you need special tools and crap for, done ....did I mention FREE.

I see you here on the board a lot an selling e30 stuff on CL. Hit me up if you need an install on something. (did I mention, I get it free???)

Thanks for the info guys. Not sure how long my e30 will be at the shop. Im having all the above mentioned rear end installs done as well as some other stuff. Thats the only downside, you have to leave the car there until they do a "class" on the install part.

Thanks for the info guys, saves me a lot of worry. Im just starting to wrench my M20 although Ive done a lot on my M54 '02 330i.

Thanks for the offer....but I tend to do 100% of the work on my cars myself.
Honestly can't remember the last time I had to pay for mechanical work. :D

Any pics of your 330? Maybe I've seen it @ meets or around.

              christ

the TB heater is not just to prevent icing in cold weather. The air moving across the throttle plate accelerates to super sonic speeds and can cause icing at intake temps around 60 degrees.

fix it, it's like $5 in parts.

I had the exact same problem.

It is most likely that little gasket near the throttle body heater setup, like most people are telling you.

Actually..its a hole in the hose behind the other one. I felt it and saw it when I was messing with it before I had it towed. Im assuming the intake has to be pulled to get to the other end of the hose. Gonna replace all of the hoses, etc. Ought to be a simple fix.

I am however giving them the following parts to install:

RTABs eccentric to help cure some of my neg camber in the rear wheels
                  R Sway bar end links
Rear wheel bearings (already replaced the fronts and the rear drivers side is howling)
                  R sub frame bushings
                  R Shock mounts

The car already had Bilstein sports on HR sports installed about 1.5yrs ago by PO

                  F Strut mounts

Control arms and FCABs replaced about 1.5 years ago by PO

Also cleaning up my fairly solid Autotragic

                  ATF redline
                  AT gasket
                  AT filter
                  AT output/input seals

Once this is all done Im on the look out for new shoes. Ronal LS's, or euroweaves, or... something decent. My original bottlecaps are bent up to the point I can feel them undulate at slow speeds.

Did I mention the best part... all the installs are FREE....no labor!!

Ill put up some pics when I have my flash drive at hand. Its a 02 Alpine 330i sedan with chrome, (yes and I like them in fact no matter how much crap I take on e46fanatics forum) M style 225/ 40/ 17;s. All my trim is still chrome and with the tiag headline surrounds it looks alright. Id LIKE the black on white look but too much to change out and IM actually on the look out for a ZHPl

Looks pretty stock, no CSL bumper or deck lid installed yet, but they are in my garage. I've done all the maintanence myself and overhauled the entire cooling and brake systems DIY. Not doing much else to it except what I must being as I want to get the ZHP soon.
