May be a factor, but may not matter with the amount of rain we've had down here lately. I was driving to an autocross yesterday morning also and have great tread on my Pilots and hydroplaned a few times. The rain has been coming down so hard here that it can't get off the road quick enough, just ends up being an inch or two deep even on the areas you don't expect it. I just make sure I'm in a higher gear and running lower rpm. We had a few cars spin off into the grass yesterday and once they hit it they spun like on ice so I can see how it happened.

Glad you and everyone else is OK.

P.S. I'm not far from you and I have an e30 for sale ;)

The rear tires weren't bad, but they had soem ware. Ide say about 40% tread life left. The funny thing is, somthing told me to change my tires out the night before, and i just never did. And your right about all that rain, i had to slow down to 10 mph yesterday bc it was raning so hard.

the ticket was from going the speedlimit. The cop had asked me how fast i was going, and i told him the speedlimit and under in some spots where rain was. So i got a speeding ticket. Im either going to argue this, or just take the damn driving school so it doesnt go on my insurance WITH my accident report. I have liability on it, and its in my dads name. Well since i got in the accident, im going to be forced to be on their insurance, so insurance would sky rocket for me since my parents have 2 new bimmers if i get that ticket on my record.

that really sucks, especially since it really was an accident and you werent goofing around. that almost happened to me a week after i got my license, but luckily the car i was in had decent traction control. my tires now are in pretty good shape and i still cant go over 50mph with moderate rainfall because the smallest patch of standing water will try to wiggle the rear loose.

I believe so, for this forums at least.

these cars really dont like water too much do they
My car is very predictable in the rain, you just need to pay attention. Any fairly light car witht wider than stock tires will be a litttle skiddish in the wet.

Sorry about the mishap, glad you're ok. You'll get another one to replace it soon enough.

I'm so sorry man. That really sucks. Trust me, I know the feeling, as do many others.

You'll be back in the game in no time.

                      Sorry to hear about that.

But it reminds me of three things.
                      1) Make sure tires are good enough for rain. (My old ones were balding on the 'weaves and I didn't worry about being cheap and not replacing them.....I got ES100s ASAP after ending up southbound on a northbound road while driving conservatively in the rain.)
                      2) Be sure to learn better car control in driving schools this summer. A lot of young drivers oversteer, say studies. I sure did with my first car and ended up in a ditch. (Car wasn't damaged luckily, landed between two trees and drove home with a little scratched and muddy car).....tires also a factor too.
                      3) Get quattro eventually for times which are not summer fun. Peace of mind of AWD for rain and winter.

That sucks man, I would've liked to check out your car sometime too.

The great thing about e30s is that they can be easily(cheaply) replaced.

Indiana laws (others should be similar) state that speed should be adjusted for conditions, and the post speed limits are for good weather.

You should only drive as safety allows, or something, and bad weather makes it possible to be ticketted for going the speed limit.

Yea, the ticket was most likely for "Too fast for conditions"

To fast for conditions at time. It may be 55 mph but common sense is supposed to prevail when conditions dictate slow down and Troopers issue tickets for this.

Glad you are fine. Sorry for car thou.
