      SHITTY!

I bought one..it is a cheap, lightweight plastic piece of shit! It has about 1/4 of the weight of a VW/Audi one. If you want to waste $40, PM me for my address. :P

        Re: SHITTY!

I had toyed with the idea of makin a lost wax cast of a vw key off a flip, then getting it cut for my car, but my list is long and it's near the end, could be done

What I wish someone would make would be an aftermarket alarm FOB that would accept a key blank so it would work like an E38 or later key where the fob and key were one. That would be soo much nicer than dealing with a fob and chain.

I made the mistake of getting one and it sucks! I don't use it. Never had it cut.

I called our local dealer, and they said they couldnt cut me one from a newer model key. I asked specifically about the flip key. They still said no. I have no clue why they wont do it.

are you seriously wondering why they "wont" do it?

You did read the response above, right? It's like trying to get a house key cut for your car. It won't work because of the size, shape, and engraving.

If you really think it can be done, go and try it.

Have you actually seen a late model key?

They are nearly 1/8th of an inch thick. Massive. The edges are not cut. Instead they use a carbide drill to cut a small channel into the key. It would take a lot of work to machine off enough of the metal to be small enough to serve as a key for us and it would still be pretty much useless as a FOB since the keyfob uses a different transponder system than our old alarms.

The best you can do is an E32/E34 key which has the light in it and is a bit thicker.
