my breaker bar is the top pipe from the blue aluminum floor jack you can get at HF. it fits perfectly over the the 3/4 craftsman ratchet.
not to mention craftsmen tools get free replacements, no questions asked, so i have not found a need to buy a real breaker yet.
tho it is annoying to have to finish a job holding the latch on a ratchet to get a job done.
4 ft breaker bar or extension wont work. I dont have a lift so I only have the clearence between the ground and my car up on ramps. About 18 inches, maybe 20.
There isn't much of a trick to it other than big muscles. I had the same problem with mine. A couple winston cups of iced tea, the handle from a napa jack and some choice wording got it off.
Invite some of your biggest friends to come over to help you pull on your breaker bar, lol. You'll get it though, but it'll be annoying.
Another trick you can try is to actually tighten before loosening, to try and break the seal. Switch from tightening to loosening a couple times and then give it all you've got.
Like I said earlier, putting pressure on it with a breaker bar WILL NOT HELP YOU. You need to HIT the plug with an instant shot of torque. Put your breaker bar on it with the appropriate hex bit, and HIT THE BREAKER BAR WITH A HANDHELD SLEDGE.
even if you could get extensions in there, it's going to diminish the effectiveness of the impact. a breaker bar will work fine 99% of the time anyway.
