The initial response I get is "wow....how did you afford such a nice car?" Then I tell them its a 1991 325i and all the sudden they look at me like I'm some poor sap :?
True that ^ ! I'd rather be a poor sap driving an e30 than an old civic or corolla!!!

140Hp is a lot of power, and on the rear wheels... WOUAAAAA

But is it reality ? Are young americans really able to obtain those cars, or it is only few of yours ?

"G" stands for gangsta, or gangster, usually seen as a term of appreciation. See also: Ghetto. Gangster Ride.

Beater is an old, beat up car, that you continue to beat up on.
I retired my E30 for now...

Man all of you are right on the head with your comments. I am preparing to show you guys what a nut I am for E30s. I dont tell this story to just anyone, but I suppose you guys can somewhat understand my diease....

Back in 2001 when the E46 ///M3 wasnt out yet, I had the choice of getting one of them, or getting a well-sorted E30 ///M3 (a car that I couldnt have ever imagined would ever be mine, and a car that made my heart flutter). Lets just say that Im so out of whack that I didnt even really have to think about it. Everyone around me couldnt believe I had just chosen a 1990 ///M3 over a brand new E46 ///M3. I knew it would become a dime-a-dozen car and no car in the world has the meaning and repect as the E30 ///m3 in my head. You dont know the shit I took for this decision from my now-wife (still gives me shit to this day when we see one), but goddamit if these cars arent rare and getting rarer and I dont have one bad ass E30 ///M3 (OK, head getting bigger). When people see it, it demands a reaction and its got a mystique unequaled really. Plus its my dream car (besides a black Sport Evo).

Now on my eta, Ive gotten a lot of "Wow man, I see a lot of your kind of cars but I never thought it could look like that. They are sooo common here (E30s). But all of them are stock and beat to shit, really. Every now and then you see one that was modded and cared for in its day, but its been neglected ad sold many times and the 80's kit is all beat and the rims are as well.

As the 41 year old nutcase on the board, here is a different perspective.

When I tell people I have a BMW and get the "you must be doing well" thing, I love pointing out that it cost 1/2 of what the road bike I'm riding now is worth! They go whaaat? I tell them I got it for three grand and the topic turns to what the hell makes a bicycle worth six thou. I tell 'em riding in the car makes my ass wider, riding the bike makes it smaller! At 41, you too will start to care about how big your ass is!

I used to race 240Zs at Road Atlanta in the early '80s, so my idea of how a car should feel is biased by my experiences there and at other tracks.

Oh, and since I won't let anyone but me fix my cars, I insist on owning cars that are designed to repaired. That disqualifies at least 90% of the available cars.

My very well cared for, lowered, appropriately shod(Ronal LS with Roundels), still turns heads. But really, I don't care what other people think. There's so much of me in my car in the form of blood, sweat, and tears, well, any idiot can go BUY a new car. But to preserve an older car requires knowledge, patience and resourcefulness! None of the mods I've done were about fitting in, or being cool or whatever. They were to make the car respond to me in a way more to my liking. Also given that I am a small business owner with two small children means I don't get near the time I'd like to have fuss over my hobby/car. My six year old delights in pointing out other E30s and always chides drivers with dirty wheels!!! Love it!

I will pick up an E30 M3 someday. That's my dream car. Not some overly complex, electronic nightmare of a car. No I-Drive. No NAV system. I can read a fuckin' map! :P Sometimes it's fun to get lost!
