THANK YOU. I was waiting for someone to come back me up.

the way I see it, the Impreza Wagon is called the Forester. The Hatch is the Outback Sport/STI/every Impreza "wagon" ever made.
Subaru Wagons are the Legacy/Outbacks. Longer, much more defined cargo area, and more cohesive styling/bodywork around the rear door (no odd kink).
I don't have an official reason though, that just makes sense to me.Comment

What?
If you can sit in the back seat belted in, facing forward and you can reach back over your head and touch the rear window, congratulations, you're not sitting in a friggin wagon. Now deal with it and stop asking stupid questions.

how is it a stupid question?
Im wondering why the 02-07 is considered a wagon and the 08-present is considered a hatch. They both look the same to me.

Im clearly aware that the new impreza is a hatch now, but why would the GD body style be considered a wagon and the new one a hatch.
The way yall are saying it all bmw, mercedes, outback, forester, legacy, and volvos are wagons, and every other wagon shaped vehicle is a hatchback.BMWs: 73 2002 sold, 83 320is totaled, 90 325ic sold, 04 X3 2.5i sold, 00 323it

Because it's not: the GD is a hatch to everyone outside of scooby-ville, and to most inside it as well.how is it a stupid question?

There are other wagons in the market besides the ones you listed, but the Impreza isn't one.Comment

ok, this is what had me confused about the subject
Production 2001–2007
Assembly Ōta, Gunma, Japan
Body style(s) 4–door sedan
5–door station wagon

Just because some people call it a wagon doesn't make it so. Same for the E30 2-doors. Some call it a coupe, some a sedan. A 5 door wagon is technically the name for any hatchback, hatch is the informal name.Comment

Yup, not many real wagons on the US market. Its all SUVs and cross overs because no self respecting soccer mom would be caught dead in a real wagon.
Simple. They switched from building wagons to hatchbacks. This is also the reason why before 08 you could only have an STI in sedan form in the US and 09+ you can only get an STI in hatchback form.

2009 Subaru Impreza HATCHBACK
Luggage Capacity: 19 cu. ft.
Maximum Cargo Capacity: 44 cu. ft.

The 2007 WAGON has a lot more interior space than the 2009 HATCH. End of story.Last edited by tjts1; 10-26-2009, 04:21 PM.

I've had a few wagons, and currently drive a e39 528it sport package'd 5-spd. I think my favorites were the Legacy and the jetta, the jetta just loved to have the snot kicked out of it. It had suspension, chip, flywheel, etc. Subaru was nice, but a bigger car. The 5 series are nice, the e34 is definately more of a tank, but the e39 is more what I want out of a car, sport package, five speed, nicer creature comforts, great gas mileage. Audi was nice too, but some people just don't know what stop signs mean

02 Jetta wagon 1.8t 5-spd plenty of mods:

01 Audi a4 1.8t 5-spd- totaled :( :

And the current e39 528it 5spd:

Funny I found this, I'm building an e34 525it 5 speed as we speak, upgrading to highline comfort interior, the car was $750 and the parts car was $500, the other parts car I didn't need in the end was $400, so add some new parts and I'll be at $2000.
This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.Comment
