Thank you from SoCal Vintage BMW / Driver's Award Winners

    Drivers,
John and I want to express our deepest thanks and gratitude for all the participation and support which made the 2009 SoCal Vintage BMW Meet a huge success. We're sorry we couldn't get out there and spend more time with all of you, but we've found out that when you put a show like ours, we're so busy with logistics and covering all the bases, that we really don't get to be out there and be more a part of the crowd. Everyone told us it was a great show, and it sure looked that way! Our sources and info put it at about 180-200 cars for the day. Please post any photos on the forum boards or email us some of your best, as neither of us had a chance to go out and take any photos. Again, thank you for being a part of it all and we do hope you had lots of fun! Now the WINNERS!

This was a nice event, the only thing I have against it is that E30s are always the runts of the community, therefore next year I may be out on this event.

                    No love for the E30?

I hate to be blunt about it, but the crowd that hosts and attends the socal vintage group isn't really in the same category as e30's. Almost every car there is bone stock, or tastefully modified (when I say tastefully, I mean slight modifications, while still attaining a classic/factory look). Most e30's you see are modified to the look of ricers, want-to-be gangsters, and volkswagons (rusted hoods, slammed, stretched tires to wheels way to big for the car). That's not to say there aren't some very nice e30's out there, but most of them aren't local enough to show up to this event.

This is just my opinion but you have to admit to an extent it's true.

I don't really care for any awards, just a little recognition.

You're right but to a certain extent, I guess we all must make our e30s cookie cutters garage them and put as much euro-crap on them to make them stand out and or noticed for the VINTAGE status?

Well, yea kind of. That's why I like at certain BMW events there is a "Modified" class for different models. That levels the playing ground in my opinion. But the "Vintage" status is kind of like looking at cars in Museums. If you went to a museum you won't see an e30 slammed, with a rusty hood, chalkboard trunklid, and 18"s. You'd see a completely (or for the most part) stock car. But not all e30's can be "best in show" and that's what makes the e30 so diverse, you'll see it all on e30's.
