There are plenty of clean, tastefully modded e30's in sSocal. I'd hedge my bets that Socal could beat PNW in a clean e30 competition. It's just that most of those e30's are not owned by forum members.

Very true also. Wish I could have been there to check out that isetta. It looked so mint!

        No love for the E30?
Yeah I was kind of taken back by that as well but the winners are chosen by "the people" so the E21 Alpina got the crown for best 3 series. Btw, there were 2 full M Technic cabbies, E30 Alpina and a handful of really nice M3's that were also in attendance. Out of all the 3 series, I guess the E21 Alpina would be the most vintage. Maybe they don't see E30's as true classics yet. Who knows.

Ive gotta say something here! I am one of the two organizers of the SoCal Vintage Event. Jeff [the other guy] and I BOTH drive E30's every day. Mine, an S50E30 318i 4 door. Fast but nothing special. E30's aren't vintage but are classic. We were expecting 50-60 E30's alone at this last event! The turn out was pathetic by you guys! Classic or Vintage, you need to see what we [and the show] are all about. There are the cars that get carted in on trailers, but mostly, the cars are run to death. Driven really hard, on track days, weekend drives, and daily commutes. That is what WE think these cars are about. No Mamosas on the green here.... You guys would know this if you ever bothered to show up for one of the events! We LOVE E30's. We post about track days and the 33 drives all the time, fast fun 90 mile runs through the mountains. Do E30 guys ever show? NOPE.
Kinda sucks. More attention would be paid to you, but you need to show up for that!
Sorry to see it this way. Wish it were different.

            John,

I thought the E30 turn out was decent considering this is the first year E30's were invited but I understand what you're saying. I was at the Ireland/Groma Open house too and was shocked to only see a couple of E30's. SoCal Vintage doesn't have the same buzz as Bimmerfest or E30 Picnic so perhaps some people just didn't know about it. The E30 being a classic alongside 2002's is a new concept to many. Also, there are very few true die hard E30 guys who make it a point to come out to meets. We might have 10-15 cars show up at a typical E30 meet (Van Nuys/Dockweiler). As for 90 mile runs through the mountains, keep in mind most E30 guys today are younger and have less time/cash.

Ouch but true. The e30 scene is still building up. The community is still pretty week. If we were able to pull together a group as big as our dockwieler meets it would surely be a different.

I see what your saying. I know the E30's are out there.... I see them all the time. I see them at Bimmerfest. The reason why the vintage group also added the classic [E28/E30/E24] group is because we felt that Bimmerfest was too much about the flashy zillion dollar paint job/stereo group. E28 and E30 guys tend to want to drive. The mountain runs don"t really cost anything.... maybe a tank of gas. Well worth it! You'll be high [and tired] the whole next day. All I can say, is at least try it once. There are 3 different groups, the really fast guys, the fast guys, and the sunday drivers. We stop pretty often to let everyone catch up. Great times! We are doing one next week if anyone is interested.

I thought it was a good event, but my thoughts are the same,E30 love, Mariano's M3 is sick! not saying the others are bad just my taste. But I have to agree with John more E30's need to attend to get noticed since I can name at least 10 E30 guys I know and that is just a few. Nonetheless, feedback is always great I hope to see more of you guys next year.
