When you push start the car, your body is grounding it and allowing the current to pass to the spark plugs.

Try cranking it over with a friend standing behind the car with his hands on the trunk lid. Sounds wierd, but I swear it will work!

:) Just kidding! Good luck figuring it out, sounds like a very strange issue.

Giving advice and naming off random car parts are not the same thing.

ok.. car is at the shop right now and they say that it's an electrical problem. %75 it's the computer. But not %100 sure..

Now I need a working ECU for 91 318i to test. So is there anyone local who can help me out with this part? (zip 07022)

but this would not be dirtbike style. it would need to be spring loaded or something so it hops off the crank when it spins but grabs when you kick it.

still not dirtbike style. i would love to see someone with a lil kick start haning out from the fender and everytime they start the car, they just pop the little start out and crank on it a few times. lol
