I would use something a little more modern and compact. 16 valve TDI.

Even an older TDI would do nicely in an E30. (1Z or AHU should suffice) My Passat was actually a decently quick car when I was done with it.

diesel technology has advanced so much in the last 10 years, not to mention the technology that was available in the early 80s, I have no idea why anyone would consider an M21. a turbo M51, now that would be fun..

m57d30 from the e39 530 had 190hp and 300ftlbs with a 4750 redline, I'll be happy with that any day! add a bigger turbo and you're talking 250whp with 40mpg!!

oh, and I possibly found a parts dealer with that engine.....

I came across a closeout sale on VW parts. What struck me was the TDI V10 Twin Turbo motor. It was $35,656 but yours for only $6,600.

What could you drop this motor into to make a sick monstrosity?

They just started selling the 335d in the states.
265 stock hp and 36 hw mpg
I bet in a couple of years idiots will start recking these and you can get the motor for fairly cheap.

Bmws new disel would be sick in an e30. Would be hard to pull off though
