They all had metal diving board bumpers until mid-88.
Mid 88 until 1991 non-verts all had plastic bumpers.
88 and up was the newer body style, so you will be able to directly swap to plastic bumpers without the hassles you mentioned (cutting + shortening rear bumper), even if it comes with diving boards.
Summary: 1988 and up will either have plastic bumpers already, or be fairly easy to convert to plastic bumpers, with no cutting of the bumper.

Late model cars also have larger taillights and lower rear fenders. IIRC 98+ doesn't have pop out windows either.1985 M10b18. 70maybewhpoffury. Over engineered S50b30 murica BBQ swap in progress.
