    today was my lucky day!

today I had my hearing for a ticket I got in november. I was going to pay the ticket and have it deferred so it wouldn't show on my record. Instead, the judge decided that since it was the last day of the year and people were going to be partying, that anyone who had a regular speeding ticket (not a no insurance or no license ticket) would have their ticket dropped if they swore not to drink and drive tonight!

obviously anyone who DOES get caught drinking and driving tonight will have the book thrown at them, and rightly so. ;)

Not only did it save me $150 (not too big of a deal), I get to save the deferrment for the future as you can only do that once every 7 years. maybe I'll put the money towards a radar detector now..

Would a Judge ever let off anyone on New Year's Eve who:

          Murdered someone?
          Was behind on child support?
          Was caught selling drugs?
          Was caught DUI?
Was caught breaking into a home?

No. Why? Because these are real crimes? It pisses me off when Judges and cops just cut lose people here and there for stupid reasons because it just confirms that traffic laws are in place for revenue purposes only.

Congrats on getting off though man. Buy a V1. It's saved me many many times. Not only do you know cops are around before you see them, you can also tell if cops around you are "hunting" (have radar on) or if they have something else to worry about (no radar on).

actually, the deferrment system was put in place to save the state money, there were over 30 people there that day who had speeding tickets (small cityt too). now they don't have to process any of them. I think the police departments get the ticket money, but the courts get the shaft.

You clearly lucked out on that one. The judge must have been in a rather juliant mood to be waiving off traffic citations. While your lucky streak is still going strong you should go by yourself a lottery ticket :D
