$10 million is 12.5% of his yearly salary. I don't think any of us will be giving that much.

Some local guy donated around 80% of all his bottled water production. His business took a gigantic hit, but he doesnt care since he's got tons of money, and he's shipping out all the water to relief efforts.

I keep hearing stories like this that amaze me.

I keep hearing stories like this that amaze me. Where is all the money froml the NBA stars and rap artists?? Just proves that those people shouldn't be thought of as heroes.
where is your proof that the NBA stars and Rap stars haven't helped at all?

I don't see NBA players as heroes, but I bet the future NBA ballers-to-be's look at to them as heroes. And there's nothing wrong with that (for most-cases).

If they donate say 5000, 10000, do you think it should/would be publicized? It is a lot of money for the average citizen, but is it Newspaper worthy? I was reading the paper this morning, and I didn't know whether if the celebrities wanted to help, or their agents told them to donate for the sake of public acceptance and future success - I don't know about yours, but my local newspapers only focused on donations that were $1million+.

You my friend, should not generalize without actually doing some thinking, and after only reading the big bold titles in the newspaper about Sandra Bullock and Leo Decap' donating.

I'm not gonna go around and research if other baseketball players have donated, or if rappers have donated at all. But I'm going to assume that just because the headlines do not say so, it doesn't mean that they have not donated.

You should also take note that the average NBA players' wages do not even come close to what Michael Schumacher makes. Same with the average rappers. So if you think that everyone must donate such a large sum to be even considered to be accepeted as 'heroes', then you need to deal with your ignorance.

I saw the news story about Schueys donation on the BBC website. A very generous gesture on his part....and a lot more (in terms of percentages) than most folks will likely give. Then again, he is in a more 'unique' financial situation than most.

And you know, there's only one other professional athlete in the entire world who makes more than MS. Its none other than Tiger Woods. Anyone here about him making a donation? No biggotry, hatred or racism here.....just making an observation.

I didn't say anyone SHOULD donate. Maybe it's different where you live, but around here the only people that are looked up to are sports stars and entertainment stars. In my opinion, that's not a good thing.

Sorry if I struck a nerve with you, but this isn't the first time things liek this piss me off and I'm venting. I.E. all the movie stars that were bitching about the job that Bush has done as president, what are they doing now to use their fame and fortune to change things?? Whether you agreed with them or not before the election it seems to me like they should still be trying to get things done, but now it's not so popular.

I think the best thing about Schuey, Sandra, and Leo donating is that it might get others fired up to do so also, no matter what the cause. I don't care why or how much, I would just like to start seeing more of these "stars" use their position to change things instead of bitching about them

I'm done.... won't post anymore about this. I was just trying to commend Schuey's decision to donate, no matter the amount.

Tracy McGrady, Kobe Bryant, Jermaine O'Neal and four other NBA players have promised to donate $1,000 for every point they score in a game later this week to help victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami.

                      Nice to see.

BTW - I wasn't targetting the NBA or rap stars specifically. I can sure understand how the NHL stars aren't giving, they aren't getting paid :D

Bullshit. You look at all those ridiculous houses and cars that all those rappers, NBA and NFL stars are always flaunting 5-6 of each on "Cribs", and tell me they don't make that much money. I'll bet money that maybe ONE rap star has donated any money to the relief of Southeast Asia. And just in case you're going to freak out about that too, I bet it's the same with rock stars, probably less.

Jesus man, you're just so up in arms about defending the names and "legacies" of rap artists and shit that you just have to jump right up and play defense attorney anytime anyone even says the slightest slanderous thing about them, don't you? You need to learn to calm the fuck down!

I honesly could give less of a shit about who donates money for them. If people decide to, that's great. I would think just as highly of a person who donated $10 as someone who donated $10 million. I swear, some of you guys can get into pissing contests and flame wars over the most trivial shit.

                          Who cares?

Some people don't like to donate their money. Others may donate but only to certain causes. I don't think it is fair to call anyone who makes money an ____(insert insult here)____ because they are not donating anything.

Hehe, so Jermaine O'Neal is donating over 50 grand already. It's too bad Kobe couldn't score vs the Spurs, they ended his 40+ point a game streak.

EDIT: Nevermind those games didn't count. :?
