Not to kill the messenger, but ...

    ... I wouldn't call that "strictlyeta.com" document particularly credible.

Look at the price figures for 1987 and 1988: The list prices for a 325i and 325is are identical in both years. However, when you go to 1989, there's a price difference of $3,500 between a 325i (2 door) and a 325is. Then, in 1990, that price difference jumps to $4,300.

Meanwhile, an '88 325iX lists for $32,800. Then, a year later, the price magically goes down to $29,950/30,750 (2-door/4-door).

The closer you look at that list the less credible it seems. Just my .02 cents' worth ...

My sticker reads $38,435.00 out the door.
Originally the car was bought with the optional 6 spoke wheels and it still had them when I got it, unfortunately someone painted them black. So I got some basketweaves. I kinda wish I had those wheels back as they are rare. This is the only pic I took of them the day I bought the car:

You know, you're probably right: I should accept as gospel anything I read on the Internet.

Meanwhile, as to your second point, you should probably leave that "you don't know what you're talking about" door closed until you learn to write above a 3rd-grade level -- it just doesn't contribute to credibility. First off, I think what you meant to say was "look at prices for cars in their respective categories ..." (which would address the plural/singular conflict in your original phrase); second, the conjunction you're looking for is "its" rather than "it's," which -- as most of us with something above a room-temperature IQ know -- means "it is."

Finally, gee, yes, you make a great point: If I was calling the shots at BMW during that period, I would most certainly introduce the basic 325i and an enhanced-content sports model concurrently at the same price. It's an absolutely brilliant business strategy -- so odd that no one else in the auto industry has recognized your sheer marketing genius.

So where'd you get that business degree? Harvard? Yale? University of HeadUpMyAss?

                yeah amazing huh

Look how much money you can make flipping burgers now a days, in the late 80's you were shitting in High Cotton if you made 30-35 grand a year. A family of 4 could live rather well with newer cars and vacations and own a home on that.

Now if your single its kinda hard to make it on that.

Wages have gone through the roof in the last 20 years, but have stagnated while inflation has kept ticking up.

I wonder why your option list them as 16" instead of 15" style 10s. Interesting.

Mine (91 318is) sat on the lot til late 1992, sold for a discounted price of 17k, 23k msrp. The e36's were already outselling the e30's on the lot. PO gave me ALL the records fr day one, and he spent 3x the msrp on maint. Locally bought, and driven and serviced in NorCal. He even gave me the finance contract and window sticker. Interest rates were CRAP in the 90s.
