The M3 and iX models were always super expensive. An M3 was $35,000 in the late '80s. That's close to $60,000 in 2008 dollars.

Even a 318is is expensive by today's standards. My dad bought mine brand new in '91 for about $22,000. Adjusted for inflation, that would be around $34,000 ... which is pretty much what a 135i costs today. And a brand new 128i is 5 grand cheaper than a brand new E30 318is.

Although I miss the simplicity, light weight, and tossable feel of the E30, we definitely get more for our money these days.
