download this song : A passage in time, by Authority Zero, this guy has serious vocal talent. I saw em live for 5 dollars. It was rediculous the amount of talent this guy had.

I think the Ramones are the original punk band, they got together a year before the Pistols. However, MC5 was together 10 years before the Ramones and the few songs I've heard by them sound more punk than anything the Ramones ever made. Anyway, bands that I consider awesome punk:

                  Bad Religion
                  One Man Army
                  The Suicide Machines
                  Rancid
                  NOFX
                  Pennywise
Avail (punk or hardcore? I've heard them described as both)

EDIT: I hope the guy who said Goldfinger is kidding.

What's wrong wih the Suicide Machines? Goldfinger is a fine band but I wouldn't call them a great punk band.

They're just about the exact same kind of music!

But whatever, I'm not getting dragged into this debate. I spent most of high school fighting with people over which band was better than which.

And high school was a long time ago, at least for me anyway.

                            Minor Threat.

Bad Religion is probably the most talented when it comes to recording, lyrics, backing vocals, guitar (Brian Baker [from minor threat]), and drums (Brooks Wackerman), but i think they lack character on stage.

                            other runners up are:
                            Oxymoron
                            GBH
One Man Army (broke up in august)

bad religion, early stuff rocked. fuck armageddon, we're all gonna die, that shit rocked. they're new stuff emphasizes the message too much imo; they lost the focus, which was about music. its just not the same.

PW carries the torch for punk music. they may seem like a bunch of skater losers, but Jim Lindberg is prolly one of the smartest, most charasmatic characters in the entire movement. His hunger to address pertinent social issues rivals that of greg graffin and brett gurewitz. straight ahead, full circle, land of the free,: they all simply rock.

i'll admit, BR still has stage presence, even after all these years. got to see them a few months ago, along with PW. i might not be the typical fan, but i'll still jump in the pit (and get my ass romped)

                                oh yeah, RIP JMT

My vote is for Rancid. :)
Pennywise is So-Cal skate punk. There are different forms of punk music.

Good Charlotte is the gayest band in existence.

lindberg don't seem to think so:

" I think Black Flag, the Descendents, and the Circle Jerks had as much to do with creating the music known as Punk rock as the Ramones and the Sex Pistols and that Hermosa Beach should therefore be a listed alongside New York and London as one the main birthplaces of punk music, instead of relegated to a footnote.
