The problem with the F20C is that it's simply too tall for the E30 chassis. You need to cut out a big section of the front subframe and move the steering rack. Much more work than it's worth IMNSHO.
Not sure if this is a joke. As for putting an SR20 into an E30, keep in mind that the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides compared to BMW engines. That means lots more custom fabrication. Not a simple swap.sigpic

Why would it be a joke? Not all of us know anything and everything about every engine ever made. It was a simple question.RIP e30 (brilliantrot '91 325i) 11/17/06 Byebye: 8/21/07

Seriously seeing some of you guys go nuts on a non-bmw engine swap makes me wonder....if you're a big fan of the 4g63 or whatever, you might as well sell the E30 and pick up a talon for that. a BMW is defined by it's engine...bmw engines are so well balanced....i know that the M20, M10, M42 don't have shit loads of power, but they suit the car really well. if you want to go fast, swap a S52 and call it a day, that's 0-60 in 4sec right there...i just don't get when a car makes 500WHP and don't use that power at all when it's a street car.
i mean for godsakes listen to that gay F20 or whatever in the E36...

SR20 is a nugget motor that breaks rocker arms, gets oiling issues, is pretty heavy and is so old tech its not funny. It's a direct relative of the early 80s FJ20!
There are heaps of SR20 BMWs in the world - quite a few out here, in NZ, Thailand, South America, UK, Japan... While they're nuggety truck motors they're also common, cheap to buy, have huge aftermarket support
For a gearbox for them you can get any S13, S14 and S15 Silvia/200SX gearbox to use (5speed, 5speed, 6speed respectively), or go for a tougher Z32 TT 300ZX/Fairlady or R33 GTS-T Skyline 'box. The Skyline 'box would be the near-unbreakable one. Stay away from the Pulsar GTi-R/Sunny SR20 stuff as that is the transverse set-up, though the Pulsar GTi-R did get quad throttle bodies (doesn't add too much power though). There is an NA SR20 that is called the SR20VE and has Nissan's version of VTEC on it - its rare and would require a full, complete rebuild to suit a turbo, though.
The swap involves plenty of fabrication and wiring, and I personally wouldn't bother with it. I have heaps of experience with monster SR20s (including a 2.2L 350rwkW brute we took to Irwindale D1 a couple of years ago - was in the chrome Auto Salon/Industrie S15 drift car for you dorito lovers) and decided to do an LSx swap into my E30.
To get the same power out of each the LS offers less complication (more cubes = more power/torque more easily), better weight distribution (shift weight back in chassis), similar cost and a swap that is more legal (out here) with better power/torque characteristics .
Do you guys have easy access to RB30 blocks over there? I thought we were the only country to get the RB30E and RB30ET? Do you even know how expensive it is to build an RB30DET/TT? You know you can't just bolt the DOHC head on and off you go, right? Then there's custom, intricate headers, turbo, fuel system, ECU, clutch, cams, valves, pistons, rods, crank, bearings, head studs, etc.
Building a GT40-fed 1.5JZ would be a better idea IMO as you'd have more of the parts for that over there and they're more reliable than the Nissan motors when pushed.Pork Hunt Motorsport

Lol. The F20 is a way more advanced motor. And it doesn't sound like a busted ex-WW2 truck!
