Actually, there's a chance that the current required to run your blowdrier will reduce the power required to run your ignition, maybe just enough to reduce the output by, hmmmm, 4.9HP.

So is the .1hp worth the $50 you'll spend on the fan? Cost benefit analysis suggests not.

Based on the original post, it was difficult to resist posting sarcastic comments - I just couldn't help myself  .

Yup, that is the reason I posted it..you REALLY think I would go to all this trouble?
Though, it has been fun seeing the responses that I have been getting.
Mostly insults, its a good way to get to know who on the board is going to pick at you and who isn't :) :) :) :)

Based on the post, you can't expect such comments. You still haven't given enough info for anyone to think that all you're doing is dropping a bilge pump into your car to increase airflow. There have been many discussions on this for several years, and I've never read one that didn't eventually end in the fact that its just not worth it.

If you've found one that works, and doesn't result in other losses, I'm sure everyone would be interested in reading about it. But don't just post that you're going to put a blower in the car that's electric, since it begs for criticism if you aren't more detailed.

I love criticism :) And your right, I wasn't detailed enough, because its a new degisn that a few people are working on. Its just a side project for some of these engineering guys I know..just wondering how the past designs have worked, and I can see the cons that it brings to performance..this way we can try to eliminate them and HOPEfully figure something out.

Thanks for the input ! :)

This electric fan idea has been thoroughly blown out the water. This idea has been around for a long time. I've read nothing but criticism about this idea, but nobody ever took the plunge to atleast produce a dyno sheet, or any feedback about it whatsoever. Maybe I missed it if someone actually did do this to their car. I say go for it anyways and don't wuss out if it doesn't go so well. Post results as well as pics.

a peltier isn't going to do any good for cooling your intake air. For one, it's going to eat a lot of power - even a small peltier will use 10 amps at 12v, one large enough to have any effect is going to be more like 20-30 amps. The air going past it is going to be moving so fast, that the peltier will not be able to cool it. Also, you have to cool the peltier for it to work. They generate more heat than cooling power.

just FYI I have lots of experience with peltiers.. back in the day I used two 80w units and a watercooling system on an old school P3 700 that I ran at 1050. It cost me about $50 a month to run in electric bills!!

as far as an electric fan, there is no need to dyno it. Even the biggest fans only move 200cfm of air. your engine is going to be moving 300-400cfm, if not more. that's what you call a serious restriction.
