except on E30s, the torque converter locks at 55mph. and the overdrive gear is taller than the 5 speeds. it's possible to get better economy on the highway, except they come with 4.10s because low speed acceleration sucks. so it ends up a wash.

21 in an eta sucks. I'd be upset if it was less than 25 mixed. I get 19 with my stroker right now, but I do mostly short trips.

i haven't figured it out yet since i haven't driven more then a half a tank with my IS but i'm pretty sure it got better then 21mpg. its got 74000 miles so it should be ready for an 02 sensor. it also used to have the surging problem that just went away and since that fixed itself i get bad gas mileage

Not all auto's came with 4.10's, my stock 87 325is auto "the old black car" started life as an auto with a factory 3.73lsd. It was a dog.

It's about driving efficiently vs always mashing the pedal. I'm driving a F250 and I eek every time I look at the obc showing 12.7 mpg. The fact that folks drive these daily is insane. It's a rental to pickup a ti tomorrow.

But the point of the question is he has an AUTOMATIC ETA not a 5 spd.

I only get 22-25 on my 5 speed eta. Its all city/short trips with a few longer drives where I drive the shit out of it.

i have a 4.10 lsd in mine and it prob averages about 23 mpg, not much highway driving. A tad worse then our 325i E90, which is depressing because its so much lighter.

In your auto eta? What do they come with stock? I figured it was a 2.79 or 2.93 like the 5 speed. 4.10 is retarded low for an eta, must be fun. :p

im getting about 20mpg in my eta, bad o2 , and running 196/60/16's with a s2.93 . I think its time i replace the o2 and fuel filter. And my car is slow as shit! also would a fan missing 3 fens effect that?

My 12/84 "e" just got new plugs, cap, and rotor, with a capped off FPR, and the OBC indicates 28-30mpg, with a 5 speed, and the 2.7? lsd. Odometer gears are toast though, so I can't calculate it the right way. Trusting that OBC is like jerking it in the middle of stonehenge though, totally wrong way IMO.

the OBC *should* be accurate.. but that assumes nothing's been dicked with, the engine is in good running condition, the sensors are all working properly, tire sizes are correct, etc.

but 20-21mpg in an eta still sucks

My eta got upwards of 34-38mpg cruising at 65mph with no A/C and conservative on the gas pedal.

Then again, most of the roads in my area are flat, I'm not going up/downhill around here.
