I want to do a swap on my 1990 325i and want your guys' opinion on which engine to go with. I'm trying to get 400 horse NA. So which engine would be best? And what other mods should I do to get my 400 horses other than adding a carbon airbox?
Swap: S38 or S50B32

serious answer - the S38 is a PITA to put into the e30, because the intake doesn't clear the hood. You need to get subframe risers to fit it under there. Additionally, a rebuild on an S38 prices out to like 15 grand.
If you've got the ducats sitting around, look for a s50b30 euro. It's a completely different engine from the US s50. Keep in mind that none of the three have a hope in hell of getting 400 HP N/A.Comment

I'm definately not against gm because my truck is a chevy, but i would like to keep a bmw engine in it. I know if i fi it i can get over 400 horse but i just don't like the maintenance of a turbo1990 E30 M3

Korman or MM built engines don't make it to 400 on an NA S38. Thats with like 15 grand worth of work after you find the motor. You can probably do it, run that race fuel they sell at that gas station of the 8 in El Cajon but I don't know how long you will be able to run it before it's going to need a rebuild, and you don't like maintenace.
Maybe you can build up an M88, that would be cool and you will get you spend a lot money.sigpicComment
